Bluetooth says connected but jbl device did not bleep like it usually has when Bluetooth device is connected. Outcome is that the speaker does not play sound from device

I ruled out issues with my iPhone for bluetooth connectivity by testing with other iPhones. JBL would not recognize the iPhones even though the iPhones said "connected" to the JBL. I turned off the JBL several times to start over, but seemed to be the longer shut down that may have reset something. Shutting it down and walking away for a couple of minutes before trying Bluetooth connection again seemed to work. No special effort, just turn on JBL, it found my iPhone, bleeped with confirmation and began playing my iPhone's Pandora.
