My daughter has been prescribed a medication which she has been taking and for which has obtained a prior authorization previously. There should be NO reason that this prescription should require a new prior authorization, but equally and more importantly, Optum provides no mechanism to notify the patient that she needs a new prior authorization, which therefore leaves the prescription pending until the patient discovers what is required. This puts the patient's health in jeopardy, and creates a bureaucratic obstacle where none is needed. Failure to notify patients that their prescriptions are being held hostage is nothing short of negligence. After discovering at the pharmacy that you were holding the prescription (Corlanor) up, I called and spoke to your representative Michelle,who stated there was no prior authorization on record, which makes no sense since, in order to get the medication, my daughter had to obtain a prior authorization. As an end result, I directed Michelle to contact the doctor, and I followed up and did the same. Bottom line, this should NEVER have been an issue, and I should not have had to find out about it after the fact from the pharmacy.
