I wanted them to help sort the infestation. ... My holiday that we took to escape flooding was a total nightmare.*I would have much preferred to stay in our flooded home, but unfortunately the insurance company said it was a risk to our health and life.*Yet the holiday cottage that we booked wasn't fit for humans or dogs. The cottage was filthy dead flies and insects all over everything the kitchen was disgusting. I was charged a cleaning fee...LoL What a JOKE.*First night we were there I started looking for a new place to stay.. but nothing!!! I couldn't go home I was stuck in a dump!! We all had a terrible night with scratching I kept waking feeling like I was crawling. The next morning we had all been bitten. Then I noticed my pug having breathing difficulties that morning I rushed him straight to the emergency vet. They told me my pugs were having a extreme reaction to flea bites. They put them on steroids, antihistamines, antibiotics and kept them because of breathing problems. We were heartbroken. The vets were very concerned. *We went back to the cottage I did my best to contact the owners but nothing. I had six numbers but nothing. I finally decided to contact homeaway to ask them for help. I was treated like a liar from the start. They tried contacting the owners, but they couldn't reach them. OH WHAT A SURPRISE!*They promised to send them a email and send a report with my photos to the solution team. What another Joke.*I kept phoning the owners they never returned my calls.*Mean while we looked like pin cushions.*A again heard nothing, we all started to treat the soft furnishing,carpet, curtains and lose covers and move the sofas and hoovered every square cm of that cottage. What we found was shocking and disgusting.*We did a flea test with a plate, water, washing up liquid and a lamp. Within minutes we had ** fleas floating around. *I again called everyone including homeaway they admitted they didn't send our email to the solution team or the owners. I couldn't believe it.*My family was going through this ****.*My vets bills and all the stuff we bought came to £****They finally agreed to give us a refund for the second week.*But actually we got nothing because we'd spent that on treatments and vet fees.*Then they kept saying they would refund but they couldn't make their mind up how to do this. *The best thing is we left that place spotless and made the beds for the next guest's.*We were assured this had never happened before. Yet when I returned I went on trip advisor and found reviews of bites from ****. I messaged these people and they shared their stories. Yet on homeaway site no such reviews exists. I found out homeaway won't put negative reviews on.*If I'd known about these reviews I'd never booked.*We went through so much while at the cottage. We also found that the owners mother who is ** washers and irons the bedding and towels on a ** minute wash at ** degree wash. Her own home is infested with fleas and she's brought them in. You only have to spend a few minutes with her to know she's got a big problem. She never stops scratching. She told me she's never treated her dogs for fleas. I felt sorry for this lady in the beginning until I realised I was being played. She was sent round to try and stop me complaining.*The day I left she came to inspect the cottage.(what a bloody cheek with the cleaners husband)*She then said you've been well compensated haven't you. You've been allowed to stay a second week for free.*You won't believe the messages I've got from the owners basically saying because we are flooded at home the insurance company will be paying for it. When I told her the money was paid via my husband bank account.*I couldn't believe the cheek.*Can you help advise us the best cause of action?*We have all evidence and emails they've sent us via homeaway app.* I need to stop these people ruining anyone's else's holiday. My husband works hard all year for his two weeks summer holidays. To face all this rubbish and to nearly lose our pug too to this is totally not right.
What they didn't realize was the impact and the stress this put on us. My husband was fuming with the infestation and filth.
I want apologies from all involved.*We want a full refund and we want compensation for vet costs, treatments, pain and suffering and stress.*What we endured has a family was simply disgusting. We were treated like liars until we sent homeawy the photos. We are considering legal action against the owners and Homeaway. We believe they are both to blame.
I'm a good customer because I did everything I could to help treating everything and including the ladies dog who obviously had fleas.
We tried to contact both parties and either party helped. They left me no choice but to try to deal with the situation without pesticides. I did research and found out fine ground salt brushed into the carpet . It drys the fleas out but needs to stay down for ** hrs to be effective.
