A global brokerage firm based in the United States, Interactive Brokers offers customers a wide range of account options. To trade with your account, you'll first need to fund it. Customers can fund their Interactive Brokers account by using various methods. Use the following guide to add funds to your Interactive Brokers trading account.

Direct Transfer From Bank

The most common way to fund your Interactive Brokers account is to transfer funds from your bank. There is no limit to the amount you can transfer from your bank account; however, your bank may have limits. To transfer bank funds to your account, perform these steps:

  1. Log in to your bank account.
  2. Be sure you have your Interactive Brokers routing number and virtual account number.
  3. Add/link your Interactive Brokers virtual account to your bank account (this process may take a couple of days depending on your bank).
  4. Once the accounts are linked, you can transfer your bank funds to your Interactive Brokers account by clicking on your bank's "transfer funds" option.

Bank Wire

If you don't want to link your bank account to your Interactive Brokers account, you can set up a one-time bank wire to fund your trading account.

  1. Log in to your Interactive Brokers Account.
  2. Request a deposit notification; this alerts Interactive Brokers about your funding intentions and allows them to process your request and provide you with transfer information to give to your bank.
  3. Request a bank wire from your bank and present them with your deposit notification information from Interactive Brokers account.

Create a Bill Payee

You can add Interactive Brokers to your list of bill payees. Once you add your trading account to this list, you can fund the account as if you're paying a bill. Keep in mind that this method may not be as easy as it is when paying other payees. You will still need to request a deposit notification from Interactive Brokers each time you want to pay your account via bill pay methods.

Checks

You can also mail in a check to Interactive Brokers to fund your account or scan a check. Log in to your account and follow the prompts for adding funds via a scanned check. When mailing a check, be sure to include your Interactive Brokers virtual account number.

If you have any questions about these methods of transferring funds, you can contact Interactive Brokers for assistance or more information.
